[TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building Empty [TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building

    Post by OcaVan 03.02.17 16:13

As i found the card 'Mystic Magican' in one of my card boxes i came up with the idea of creating a silent skill tcg only deck.
I'm aware that this deck will be not effective as other theme or effect based decks like an Avatar or survivor/wave striker deck, but the idea is really exciting to me.

I hope you could help me, giving advices and ideas would be really helpful. I keep you uodated then =).

I'm not even sure about how many Civilations i should play...
so i just start right away with a card 'pool' list that might be playable:

    Silent skill creatures/support:

Mystic Magican (4x, key card of the deck)
Burnwisp Lizard (2x, support and only 2 because i can't combine it with Mystic Magican)
    3 - 4x Venom Capsule
    3 - 4x Hustle Berry
3x Sporeblast Erengy (searching for the keycard, maybe a dimension gate will do the same trick)
    2x -3x Pinnpoint Lunatron
1x - 2x Milporo, energy stream is more useful i think
3x - 4x Soderlight (maybe some sort of 'lame' field control, combined with Pinnpoint Lunatron
    2x Gigamente
    3x Kejila, the Hidden Horror

    Light silent skill creatures:
    Bulgluf, the Spydroid
    Flohdani, the Soydroid
    Kaemira, the Oracle

    the rest:
    energy stream
    pala olesis
    messa bahna
    terror pit
    ...

I'm thinking that LWD would be the easiest base to work from, as it gives you the control and defense you would want. (Otherwise Silent Magician actually just hurts you leaving your other creatures tapped.)

I think Burnwisp is just another version of the deck entirely.

Although, maybe some LWDF deck that looks like...

    4x Venom Capsule
    2x Gigamente

    4x Soderlight, the Cold Blade
    1x Miraculous Snare

4x Aqua Surfer (or Spiral Gates)
    4x Silent Magician
    2x Pinpoint Lunatron
    3x Crystal Memory

    4x Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian
    4x Holy Awe

    4x Bolmeteus Steel Dragon
4x Volcano Charger (Burst Shot? Tornado Flame?)

    ----

I dunno, it just feels like it might be too slow. Maybe Tajimals are needed?

Or, mayber Gazer Eyes + Hide and Seek would be a better plan. Or ignoring the Fire and going into Kejila instead of Bolmeteus.  Makes it easier color wise.

Melnia could fit to get some more quick weenie attacks in to finish a game after Venom.

Interesting indeed, this same topic was discussed on DM Finland about a year ago. I ended up building 1 variation with Mystic Magician (control) and other with Burnwisp Lizard (more aggro,) but both actually were disasters. I ended up changing Burnwisp Lizad to Mykee's Pliers since it was actually better there but didn't help. Nonetheless, @Zach Hartigan at least had a Silent Kill deck in use. I managed to find the deck list for my decks on DM Finland:

Not So Silent After All (RUGB)

    Darkness (5)
    3x Gigamente
    2x Hourglass Mutant

    Fire (12)
    4x Gankloak, Rogue Commando
    4x Mykee's Pliers
    4x Rikabu's Screwdriver

    Nature (15)
    3x Faerie Life
    3x Hearty Cap'n Polligon
    3x Hustle Berry
    2x Sniper Mosquito
    4x Sporeblast Erengi

    Water / Darkness (8)
    4x Hide and Seek
    4x Soderlight, the Cold Blade

    The Silence's Upon Us (BUY)

    Darkness (8)
2x Gazer Eyes, Shadow of Secrets
    3x Gigamente
    3x Kejila, the Hidden Horror

    Light (18)
    2x Belix, the Explorer
    3x Belmol, the Explorer
    3x Bonds of Justice
    2x Diamond Cutter
    4x Nariel, the Oracle
    4x Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian

    Water (8)
    3x Mystic Magician SWotSR
    2x Pinpoint Lunatron SWotSR
    3x Spiral Gate

    Water/Darkness (6)
    2x Hide and Seek
    4x Soderlight, the Cold Blade

Anyway, I wouldn't suggest building these :D Yami Michael has interesting ideas there.

For some reason I thought Nariel was released after dm-12, not that it was in DM-08. I'm so out of touch with english-only cards. Otherwise I would have suggested it.

Surprised the first deck didn't have uh...Thrash Crawler, but I imagine it was considered and it can't attack...

Nariel is very used in TCG format, but it's easy to forgot all about that when focusing on the newest sets and the latest meta decks. I got back to TCG a few years back and it is a very different world than OCG. Didn't take that long to realize that.

Both decks I built were kinda bad but maybe they could help you OcaVan in building your own version. I'd personally stay away from Burnwisp Lizard and just focus on Mystic Magician. Still, you shouldn't rely too heavily on Silent Skills since they are very slow and easily counterable. Best Silent Skill creature is probably Soderlight.

Post by Zach Hartigan 03.02.17 22:19

Yup thats true. I have LWD SS deck with Nariel lockdown and it works pretty well. Its a bit slow but when i get field control running with Gazer Eyes -> gg. Fact is you cant build Silent Skill deck which would be tournament material so i play with mine only in "Play For Fun" matches. Pure SS deck is weak against rush and always disgusting RUB.

Here is deck list of my version:

    Mystic SS Forces

    3x Bloody Squito
    4x Death Smoke
    3x Energy Stream
    3x Flohdani, the Spydroid
3x Gazer Eyes, Shadow of Secrets
    3x Intense Evil
    3x Kejila, the Hidden Horror
    2x Milporo
    4x Mystic Magician
    4x Nariel, the Oracle
    4x Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian
    3x Soderlight, the Cold Blade
    3x Sol Galla, Halo Guardian
    3x Venom Capsule

    * * * * *

Strategy is start to build strong defence asap with Nariel lockdown. When Mystic Mage hits the field is time to set up control step by step. Pala Olesis helps a lot to get rid of fire death spells and i have think Petrovas too to boost blockers power.

Capsules and Kejilas wipeout shields easily but ofcourse you need to make final strike. Thats why there is Intense Evil spell. Nariel gets fired and time to end game. But like i said earlier, its very difficult to get this situation. Anyway, lets see what kind a Silent Skill deck you build Cool

    Post by OcaVan 06.02.17 0:04

Woooow, thats a lot of input. Thank you, for your efforts so far.
So, i need my tapped silent skill creatures to survive at least one round. This means i need pala olesis. Nariel is also a great Idea. I actually don't know what Flohdani would't be good for if i can't attack the creatures with mine while nariel is on the field. even if, Kejila is still the highest power creature in this deck idon't won't to rely on 3 copies to take out tapped creatures. Kaemira might be a fun idea icreasing my 'shield hitpoints' round by round, maybe bulgluf would be safer...

This is not the final deck yet, but i'm thing i'm getting there (because of your great ideas =) ):

    Water: (14)
    4x Mystic Magican
    4x Spiral Gate
    3x Pinnpoint Lunatron
    3x Energy Streams

    Light:(12)
    4x Pala Olesis, Morining Guardian
    4x Nariel, the Oracle
    2x Holy Awe
    2x Kaemira

    Darkness: (17)
    3x Kejila, the Hidden Horror
    4x Venom Capsules
    3x Gazer Eyes
    2x Death Smokes
    3x Bloody Squito
    2x Gigamente

    Nature: (9)
    2x Hustle Berries
    3x Fearie Life
    2x Sporeblast Erengy
    3x Dimension Gate

    Multi: (9)
    4x Soderlight
    3x Melnia, the Aqua Shadow
    2x Hide and Seek

Well it's a listing and way too big... if you have any ideas on how to reduce/change the list above, i would be happy =)

[TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building Empty Re: [TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building

Post by Zach Hartigan 06.02.17 1:16

Yup, its definetely way too big. In my opinion four civilizations is too much but Natures manaramp may help to get running Magician and co. Lunatron is good choice for late game control and one way to remove Nariel too. I like to have Flohdanis because i can use that Evil removal at any time need if its neccesary. Opponent may have too much creatures and possible counter for Nariel lock. Then i can take back fields control with my own creatures and Flohdani makes it alot of easrie while tapping opponents keycards. However i can sacrifice my small creatures to takeout threats like Cocco Lupia, Rikabu's Screwdriver etc while Nariel is on the field. One Venom Capsule or Sol Galla is small price for such elimination. And remember that Pala Olesis got strategic advantage with its power 2500. It get around of Nariels tight barricade and can clear one level bigger enemies. But maybe youre right and there something better i can play than Flohdanis.

Also consider that do you need Kaemira or Gigamente. I'd say they take important space away. With lesser cards success will be more realistic.

    Post by OcaVan 24.02.17 15:59

Thanks, to all of your suggestions, ELTP, Zach Hartigan and Yami_Micheal!

I finally managed to build my silent skill deck.
    Here's the List:

    Water:
    4x Mystic Magician
    3x Pinnpoint Lunatron
4x Spiral Gate (if i would have one, will exchange it with another Nariel *sorry for the grammar*)
    3x Energy Stream

    Light:
    4x Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian
3x Nariel, the Oracle (need 1 more)
    2x Holy Awe

    Darkness:
    4x Venom Capsule
2x Gazer Eyes, Shadow of Secrets (need one more)
    2x Kejila, the Hidden Horror
2x Death Smoke (could be replace with two terror pits)

    Multicolour Water/Darkness:
    4x Soderlight
    3x Melnia, the Aqua Shadow

I tested this Deck 3 times against a Mono Yellow (White Knight), a Mono Darkness (Demon Command) and a mono Red Deck (Armored Dragon).
It won against the mono Light deck but that's no surprise. I just wanted to see if the combinations of Nariel and Mystic Magician would work and they did.
And guessed what: it was totally obliterated by the other two decks. But this is no surprise to me, as i already mentioned it in the first post.

Maybe this deck needs more destroy/return/discard stuff but still, i think this is by far the most boring deck to play i build so far, due to Nariel Attack 'Fun Block'. The game doesn't feel dynamic anymore at all.

I try to improve it, because it took quite some efforts to get the cards for it. But as all of you others already mentioned: Silent Skill is very hard to play.

What makes building a SK deck hard is the fact that as the name silent suggests, you should proceed cautiously and be sneaky. Nariel + Mystic Magician + Kejila/Pintoint can be bad for your opponent but by removing even one part from that, the bomb is disarmed and you have to set it up again.

By adding more discard (Cranium Clamp, Cloned Nightmare, Ghost Touch) you could make it harder for your opponent to counter your moves. Still the deck is very vulnerable against any kind of removal. For this reason, it's wise to combine Venom Capsule and Melnia with Nariel and Pala Olesis. This makes your early game stronger and actually quite strong. Late game is what is hard to maintain with SK creatures.

Cranium Clamp, Ghost Touch sounds like a good idea.
Maybe Corile, Soulswap, and terror pit too?
I don't like using corile, but if it would help the deck to be less awful...

Hahh, no need for Soulswap, you don't really have any reasons for adding it especially since you don't have nature there. Hide and Seek could work nicely. You could import some Japanese Plagues for your deck maybe, or maybe not.

yeah qell i could... but i'm not so sure if it's worth the effort. I mean i could still use them in other decks but i was fine without any if the miracolous spells most of the time.
Discard and Terror Pits and Shield Trigger are helping to survive longer. Nariel is really the weak spot... is there any way to chanhe this? without ocg

Pala Olesis is probably the best way of protecting Nariel and also graveyard revival after Nariel gets killed. Oh and Petrova maybe.

Maybe you could focus on having your deck more aggro focused by replacing all the cards that cost 5 or less with something that cost 4 or less. Expect for Terror Pits and Aqua Surfers if you liked to have those as an back up in case your opponent tries to roll over you before you can finish him.

[TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building Empty Re: [TCG] Silent Skill Deck Building

    Post by OcaVan 14.03.17 22:01

This my silent skill deck by now:

    Water: (12)
    4x Mystic Magician
    2x Spiral Gate
    2x Energy Stream
    2x Pinnpoint Lunatron
    2x Brain Serum

    Darkness: (15)
    4x Venom Capsule
    2x Death Smoke
2x Gazer Eyes, Shadow of Secrets
    2x Cranium Clamp
    2x Ghost Touch
    3x Terror Pit

    Light: (9)
    3x Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian
    4x Nariel, the Oracle
    2x Holy Awe

    Multi: (6)
    3x Soderlight, the Cold Blade
    3x Melnia, the Aqua Shadow

More agressiv, Kejila is missing of course but it won at least one round out 3 against my 5-god (emerald pharao) and two rounds against a wave striker /veggie deck. It is effective against any deck that focus more on power and lacks of effective removal effects (nature/light). It's actually working way better now than it was in the beginning. Thx ELTP, Zach Hartigan and all the other's who have helped me so far =).

    @Enigmafiend
I can't see any useful situation were a Mana Crisis would prevent my Nariel from being removed (by spiral gate, death smoke, Phantom's Dragon Flame and maybe some more).
In which context do you think Mana Crisis in this deck would be useful? An example would be helpful.
