    Duel Masters Arena

Greetings all! This is my take on a Duel Masters -based video game. Created with Visual Studio, Duel Masters Arena focuses on the following key points:

    • User experience
    • Automation of gameplay
    • Faithfulness to the game rules

Duel Masters Arena can be played with two players or alone. Duel Masters Arena includes a Hot-Seat Mode for two-player matches where players have to insert a pin code each time they have to make choices (e.g. playing their turns, choosing whether they want to activate shield triggers from broken shields, choosing whether they want to block attacking creatures). Naturally the choice-making player cannot see their opponent's hand during that time. Playing without Hot-Seat Mode is recommended when playing alone (eg. testing deck ideas or just playing for fun).

Duel Masters Arena includes a Deck Builder to create decks to be used in duels. It automatically checks if the deck follows regulations (max 4 copies per card and a minimum deck size of 40).

All feedback is highly appreciated should it be about bug discoveries, user experience (convenience/inconvenience), suggested improvements or anything related to the game. I'm especially interested to know if you have any problems in installing the game as it has only been tested to work with some Windows operating systems and some anti-virus software may raise concerns if the executable is not trusted. Having said that, please don't hesitate letting me know of such issues.

    Upcoming updates:

    • More customization options
    • Implementation of cards from set DM-11 Blast-O-Splosion of Gigantic Rage

    Version history:

    • Version 1.1000 - Implemented cards from set Shockwaves of the Shattered Rainbow (DM-10).
    • Version 1.0900 - Implemented cards from set Fatal Brood of Infinite Ruin (DM-09).
    • Version 1.0800 - Implemented cards from set Epic Dragons of Hyperchaos (DM-08).
    • Version 1.0700 - Implemented cards from set Thundercharge of Ultra Destruction (DM-07). Added a Booster Draft mode. Implemented the 15 promo-only TCG cards.
    • Version 1.0600 - Implemented cards from set Stomp-A-Trons of Invincible Wrath (DM-06). Added alternative promo prints for existing cards.
    • Version 1.0500 - Implemented cards from set Survivors of the Megapocalypse (DM-05).
    • Version 1.0400 - Implemented cards from set Shadowclash of Blinding Night (DM-04).
    • Version 1.0300 - Implemented cards from set Rampage of the Super Warriors (DM-03).
    • Version 1.0200 - Implemented cards from set Evo-Crushinators of Doom (DM-02).
    • Version 1.0100 - First implementation which includes the first 120 cards from Base set (DM-01).

The game is included in a rar-file with a readme-file which has short and simple guide for you to get the game running.
Have fun playing Duel Masters Arena!

    Wow, that's pretty cool
Do you have any screenshots though? I like to look at what a game looks like before downloading.

I have already played around with DM Arena and it is way more interesting than I thought it would be. I recommend giving it a shot!

It can be played locally between two players in a hot-seat styled way. It has a pin code system which is utilized in swapping between actions players make to ensure that each player can see only the cards they are meant to see (e.g. not their opponent's hand).

The game doesn't have online multiplayer nor AI opponents. For the online part, I don't have that much experience of making online multiplayer games and I think focusing on that would require too much time and effort. Instead, I want to focus on implementing new cards for now as I find it more productive.

An option to play against AI wouldn't be as demanding to implement as the online multiplayer. However, creating a challenging AI would take much more time and effort. As I'm not interested in making an easy AI nor using too much resources on making a challenging one, I want to continue making new cards playable for the game as it is now.

Having said that, my current goal is to implement all TCG cards for the game. After that I might start implementing OCG cards or I might reconsider creating an online multiplayer mode.

Glad to see there is still interest for the game!

I haven't been able to put that much time into the development of the game lately but the game will definitely receive updates in the near future. The next update is going to be a big one as it includes cards from set DM-10 and major reworks on the game engine. I'm looking forward to release the next update by the beginning of October, and I'll try to implement the remaining two TCG sets by the end of this year.

Also looking forward, to when all sets are implemented, because otherwise i would not be able to build my decks.
Btw, how is the deck editor in your game, and is there a way to play against bots?

The deck builder lets you create new decks and modify existing ones. It automatically follows the TCG deck regulations in which only 4 copies of a card with the same name may be used, and the deck must contain at least 40 cards. The decks are saved in a file that will be read when a duel starts so that the decks may be used in duels. The next update will have some minor improvements to the deck builder and it will support all cards from DM01-DM10, including the Promo versions for those cards.

As mentioned in previous posts, the game doesn't support playing against bots because creating a reasonable AI would take much time from other development, mainly from the implementation of new sets. As what it is now, you can play against another people on the same computer or just against yourself.

After I have finished the remaining TCG sets I might consider creating an AI if the demand is high enough, but that would delay the implementation of OCG sets. I might start a poll on that topic once the TCG sets are in so that I know how to develop this game further Smile

An AI would be highly appreciated!
When can we expect the next update?
